From 2009 until 2014, the Open Society Foundations (OSF) offered a grant program for photographers from Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Mongolia.   Up to ten grants a year were given to photographers documenting social justice or human rights issues in their home country or in the region.  The program provided the grantees with a cash grant; audio equipment and software; and with two advanced workshops with highly esteemed photographers, editors, and multi-media producers.   Al-liquindoi was charged with organising the workshops and mentorship.  The mentors included photographers Antonin Kratochvil from VII, Yuri Kozyrev of Noor, Thomas Dworzak of Magnum, Adrian Kelterborn.  Photo editors Andrei Polikanov, Maryanne Golon, Francesca Sears, and Alice Gabriner.  Multi-media editors and producers Bob Sacha, Chad A. Stevens, and Adrian Kelterborn.  Each year’s grantees met twice during the term, either in Istanbul, Turkey or Tbilisi, Georgia.
