Pep Bonet

Cádiz 16 - 20 June 2008

The Evolution of a Photographic Language

This five- day workshop with Pep Bonet will be divided between classroom sessions and time spent photographing and editing exercises. Each participant should bring a portfolio of previous work with them to the workshop.  They will receive and in-depth critique of that work which will also be used as a jumping board for workshop assignments.

Pep will spend time talking about his own work and the different projects he has worked on.    He will share his photographic references with the group and discuss the difficulties of being a working photographer:   The importance of motivation and goals, ethics and subjectivity, and how one can grow and learn through photography.   Time will also be spent on practical issues such as researching story ideas, logistics and financing for projects, the advantages of working with NGO's, and applying for grants. As the editorial market rapidly changes, various alternative markets emerge for photographers looking to finance and place their work.   Pep will talk about these alternatives and offer advice and direction as to agencies and getting work published.   Some time will also be dedicated to discussing the differences between the digital file and the analogical negative, digital retouching and portfolio preparation.

Each person should come away from this workshop with a better idea as to the benefits and hardships of being a working photographer.   Through portfolio reviews, workshop assignments, editing sessions and discussions each participant should also have attained a better idea of their own visual style and where they wish to go with their photography.
