Cádiz: Steet Photography
This is a workshop for street photographers who want to develop their photographic skills and personal styles using the city of Cadiz as their laboratory. Students will be asked to work on a specific theme that can be as broad as the morning light or as specific as portraits in a town square. In either case, the goal will be to produce by the end of the workshop, a coherently selected and edited body of work that will represent the photographer's point of view and passion for artistic and journalistic exploration.
Along with daily critiques and discussions of individual images and in the field challenges, the workshop will concentrate on the photographer's state of mind. What is motivating the photographer? What is their interest and intention and how can that be best communicated? Street photography can be the most exhilarating as well as frustrating forms of photographic practice. Photographers can often feel bewildered by this radical act of wandering without plan or time frame. Issues of fear, self-consciousness, and conflicts over whether to be seen or unseen will be openly discussed and embraced.
Participants should have a good working knowledge of their digital equipment and be committed to producing images inside the camera rather than relying on Photoshop post-production enhancing techniques. A tripod is recommended for those interested in long exposure photography.
Each participant will be asked to bring 20 prints of their previous work for critique the first day. This work should represent the photographer's aspirations and personal favorites, as well as one or two images they felt didn't quite make it.
How to apply: This workshop is designed for serious amateur and professional photographers. Applicants should email a short written description of their photographic experience and a selection of their best work. (6 - 10 photos at 425 x 624 pixels) The deadline for applications is the 26th of May. The organization will be in touch with each person by the 2nd of June.
