Matías Nieto König

Matías Nieto König received his photographic training in Spain and Berlin with a focus on photojournalism and documentary photography. His work has been published widely in Time, Newsweek, Die Zeit, The Independent on Sunday, El País, Liberation, Vogue, and Stern. His work has been exhibited by the Caja de Salamanca y Soria, Fundación La Caixa (Fotoprés), the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, ARCO 2000 in Spain and the Instituto Cervantes in Paris.

In 1992 Matías began to work in cinema. To date he has worked on 35 films with some of the most prestigious Spanish film directors: Antonio Banderas (El camino de los ingleses 2006), Alejandro Amenabar (Tesis 1995, Abre los ojos 1997, Mar Adentro (digital effects) 2004), Agustín Díaz Yañes (Alatriste (art department) 2005), Mario Camus (Amor Propio 1995, El Coyote 1997, El color de las nubes 1998, La ciudad de los prodigios 1999), Antonio Mercero (La hora de los valientes 1998), Daniel Monzón (El corazón del guerrero 1998, El robo más grande 2001, The Kovak Box 2005), Miguel Hermoso (Como un relámpago 1998, Fugitivas 2000), Achero Mañas (El Bola 2000).

Matías is one of the founding members and the President of the Asociación of Still Photographers, AFC.

Matías also continues to work on documentary photography projects and on his personal work, having received a grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Spain. Other projects include a book of the history of the Spanish Royal Academy, la Galeria de Decanos de la Universidad Carlos III, and the memoir of BBVA 2002.

Matias works in all forms of multimedia, audio and visual. He has worked with special effects for film and has also created web pages. In 2001 he won the commission to make high resolution 3D virtual replication of the Alhambra in Granada, the largest project of its kind to date.
