Gary Fabiano
Gary Fabiano was trained in the fine arts as a painter, but soon decided that he could better express himself and make a difference by using a camera. Fabiano has covered conflict from Bosnia to Kosovo and from the Middle East to Haiti. His work from the Kosovo war gained him recognition. He was awarded first place in the Professional Division in the 1999 Kodak/PDN Black and White Photography contest as well as recognition in the 2000 Alfred Eisenstadt Awards where he was featured in the "Best Magazine Photos of the Year" special edition of LIFE magazine. In 2002 his photographs from the West Bank were awarded the SPD Award of Merit from the Society of Publication designers. On September 11 th , 2001 while photographing the attack on the World Trade Center in New York, Fabiano was trapped under debris when the platform he was standing on collapsed. His photographs from that day have been included in several exhibitions as well as books. He was also included in the HBO documentary about the WTC attack. Fabiano is a member of SIPA Press. His photographs have been published in magazines around the world including: Life, Newsweek, Time, US News & World Report, Paris Match, Mother Jones, Le Figaro and the Times Magazine of London. He currently lives in Washington DC.
