March - October, 2012
Al-liquindoi Workshops, Contemporary Image Collective and NOOR announce Visual Storytelling in an Open Society, a six-month training opportunity for Egyptian documentary photographers and photojournalists.
The program provides fully funded training and support to 15 photographers who are using the medium to critically explore current social, economic and political issues in Egypt and the region. With the dramatic changes of the past year, there are hopes for a new era in politics and society and for increased freedom of expression. Photographers are on the frontline of life, witnessing and documenting events close-up and transmitting images to a wider audience in a manner which can have a lasting impact. This program has been created to support photographers in Egypt who will contribute to civil society at home, and when appropriate bring those issues to an international stage through long-term documentary work. APPLICATION DEADLINE IS SUNDAY FEBRUARY 12TH, 2012.

October 2011
In October 2011, Al-liquindoi offers two photography workshops with Franco Pagetti from the agency VII and Peter van Agtmael from Magnum Photos in collaboration with the BIPRC, the City Council of Barcelona and the Ensurecer Foundation.
The Barcelona International Peace Resource Center (BIPRC) opens a new chapter with a series of exhibitions held at the Montjuïc Castle aimed to raise public awareness and promote a culture of peace and human rights through the arts with specific attention to documentary photography. Located in the Castle of Montjuúc, a former military fortress that was recovered as a citizen’s amenity by the City of Barcelona, the BIPRC provides a unique venue for professionals from around the world to receive specialized training in a range of areas including mediation and conflict management, crisis management, and humanitarian affairs. At the same time the BIPRC strives to promote peace and solidarity among the general public through the organization of exhibitions and events. With half a million people visiting the castle each year, the newly renovated exhibition halls and classroom space offer the perfect venue for advocating and raising the public awareness on questions of peace, justice, solidarity, human rights, and environmental sustainability.
